25 Bible Verses to Meditate On During Uncertain Times

Believe it or not, Scripture tells us to expect uncertainty. Although there are signs, there is no way we can know every detail on how life will play out.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also he has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God (Elohim) does from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11, NKJV

The best practice that we as Believers can do when facing uncertainty is to meditate on the Word of Yah. But isn’t meditation a New Age thing?

Meditation in the Scriptures

While meditation is an integral practice in New Age beliefs and philosophies, how meditation is defined in Scripture is different. There are many Scriptures that speak to meditating on Yah’s law, word, and his way.

The Blue Letter Bible computes that the word “meditate” shows up in the Bible about 14 times. One verse in Joshua writes,

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8, NKJV

The Hebrew word for meditate in this Scripture is הָגָה (hāḡâ). The Strong’s Concordance number for this word is H1897 which is defined:

  • to murmur (in pleasure or anger);
  • by implication, to ponder:—imagine, meditate, mourn, mutter, roar, sore, speak, study, talk, utter.

In New Age meditation, the focus is on self, your desires, and your will. In our walk with Yah, our meditation must not be on ourselves, our emotions, desires, or our will.

The point is to shift the focus away from ourselves and toward Yah only. We must meditate on Yah and immerse ourselves in his word, character, will, and desire. This is how we transform and renew our minds.

4 Ways to Meditate on the Word of Yah

As you read the Scriptures above, I hope at least one of them resonates with you. Here are 4 ways to help you meditate on the Word of Yah:

          1. Read the Context.

Understanding the context is important when studying the Scriptures. Read the Scripture in context with the surrounding verses in the chapter. The Blue Letter Bible, Enduring Word Commentary and The Bible Project are three tools that can help. It is also helpful to read the Scriptures in different Bible translations. In addition to the NKJV, I also like to read the verses in the Amplified and KJV versions. To learn more about these tools, watch this video. I share an overview on each one and show how you can use the Blue Letter Bible online.

          2. Study through Journaling.

Once you’ve read the Scripture in its context, why not take it a step further by studying and journaling? Any journal will do! Cultivate What Matters has a Write the Word Journal where you can write-in any Scripture you are reading. You can study the Scriptures in your journal by using the S.O.A.P method or by verse mapping.

          3. Write and Place.

In sight, in mind. Write the Scripture on sticky notes, and place it on your mirror, wall, or computer. Place the Scriptures in the most common areas in your home or at work. This creates the chance for you to read this Scripture daily. This will help you memorize and lead you to go to the Word of Yah as your first resort.

          4. Design a Screensaver.

Make it easy, make it fun! Get creative and design an inspiring screensaver using the Scriptures. Make the Scripture a screensaver for your phone, tablet, or computer. There are some apps or websites that are easy to make your own screensaver. I like using Canva – they have a lot of great templates and features that come with a free account.
