“I am a four-time stroke survivor.”
If you’ve known my mom for any length of time, you may know that she is a four-time stroke survivor. My mom tells her testimony often and I have committed that part of her testimony to memory.
I remember my mom’s testimony not only because I’ve seen her go through a stroke and witness God’s healing in her life. I remember her testimony also because of how many times she has told it to other people.
And that right there is the power of a testimony.
A testimony reaches outward to other people and inward to yourself. In both of these ways, it brings about humility, growth, thanksgiving, encouragement, awe, wonder, and appreciation. Because of my mom’s testimony, I know that God is a healer and a restorer. If God can heal and restore my mom’s health, then He can do the same for me too.
Everyone has a testimony. It’s time to tell yours. There is so much power in your testimony. Revelation 12:11 says we overcome Satan by the blood of Christ and the word of our testimony.
A testimony is a true account that gives evidence of how God shows Himself strong in your life. There is no end to God; He is eternal. God desires to show himself strong in any and all areas of your life (spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, professionally, etc.) I believe that God does this in two ways: through blessings and trials.
Growing up in the church, after people share their testimony, some would say “If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just live a little longer.” Our testimony gives evidence of our faith and trust in God as we each walk through different seasons of our lives.
Listen to me: somebody NEEDS to hear YOUR story. Your testimony is something that NO ONE is able to take away from you because it is TRUE. Sometimes people can have many opinions about your testimony. But someone’s opinion of what you’ve been through does not cancel out the truth of it.
God uses what we have in our hands. And what we have in our hands will always be enough. We will always have our testimony. God desires His glory to be shown through our lives, so be intentional with sharing your testimony and share it often. Like a beautifully curated book collection, your life is volumes and it’s worth reading and remembering. So tell your testimony – share it with others and share it for yourself.
To God be the glory.
